What is an Image Sequence?
This is a brand new technology available exclusively from Alive Studios.
This exciting format utilises our scanning method to it's fullest by giving you, our customer, the individual cells of your film as individual photographs or 'images'. If you look closely at your cine film, you'll see it's made up of thousands of photographic cells - a small 50ft reel of 8mm film contains approx. 4300 cells!
When we transfer your film, we scan each of these cells individually, and we're now able to give you these as separate image files. We offer a choice of two styles for you to choose from which are explained below.
Why should I order the Image Sequence?
Two reasons - you will have an individual image file for every cell of your film, meaning you can extract any special moment from any point in the film, and use it in any way you choose... Email them, print them, make a photo album - the possibilities are endless... and the quality is astounding!
In HD the image size is 1920x1080pixels
In SD the image size is 720x576pixels
Option 1) Image Sequence for Movie editing:-
This format is best if you intend editing your film in software like Movie Maker or Final Cut. You can drop the image sequence into your software and edit it like any normal movie. We have already done the speed change for you to ensure that it plays back correctly at 25fps, which is what you need for normal TV viewing.
The beauty of this format over other editable formats like AVI, is that there's no codec involved, so you can totally future-proof yourself, and can re-use the file in many years to come without worrying about what codec you will be using in the future. You can also print/email/edit the individual photographs too!
Option 2) Image Sequence for Stills.
This wonderful option gives you the same still images as above, without the speed change. This is perfect if your intention is to use the images individually as photographs. You can still import the sequence into film editing software, but you would need to make the speed change to 25fps yourself.
What's the difference between option 1 & 2?
The only difference between the two options is that option 1 will have some duplicated cells to make the speed change from what you shot it at (say 16fps) to TV standard which is 25fps.
Both options give you all the images, you just get some duplicates in option 1, but this does make film editing easier. Make your choice based upon how you will mostly use the file - as a movie or as stills. Many customers choose to have their movie as an editable format such as ProRes or AVI, then add Image Sequence option 2 so that they can print photos.
